Laura Mvula’s latest single proves she is a ‘Phenomenal Woman’
Birmingham born singer-songwriter, Laura Mvula has released an incredibly vibrant music video for her stunning new single, ‘Phenomenal Woman’.
After the success of her 2013 album, ‘Sing to the Moon’, Laura Mvula is back with new material and is ready to fly (oh my – listen to the song and you’ll understand the reference…)
The song is inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem ‘Phenomenal Woman’, so naturally this uplifting anthem celebrates female power and the legacy of Angelou’s work!
The video was filmed in the radiant Bo-Kaap, Cape Town in South Africa, and features some beautifully eccentric and African-inspired patterns and fashions.
With bursts of colour, a strong and empowering message and soulful vocals that have a Nina Simone/Billie Holiday quality, this single is an instant success!
The lyrics have been reported to be inspired by her recent divorce (“She found the light inside, a new horizon”) and this song is a fantastic motivator for all women (and men).
Due to be released on iTunes on 17 June, the track is off her upcoming album, ‘The Dreaming Room’.
