A ‘seaside in the sky’ pop-up restaurant and bar is coming to the Gherkin

Oh I do like to be beside the sea side…

Well, apart from all that rain, the sand in-between your toes, and the freezing cold water!

Fear not… There’s a way to have that beach holiday without all the mess.

Bringing a taste of the true British seaside to the skyline this summer, Searcys Bar at the Gherkin have joined forces with Nyetimber and Plymouth Gin to bring about the best sparkling wine and to a seaside-themed setting.

Moving into the iconic Gherkin for just six weeks, you can indulge in 360 degree views whilst visiting the two floor pop up. Food will be served at the Coastline on the 39th floor, while upstairs on the 40th there’ll be the Beach Hut Bar.

They’ll be candy-coloured beach huts, deck chairs and a fishing boat, as well as takes on true British dishes.

Food includes cod, scallops, lobster, crab and oysters and other seafood sourced from around Britain, gourmet fish and chips with cod poached in butter, with squid ink scrap, pea puree and triple cooked chips as well as beef wellington with 35-day aged Lake District beef.

There’s also British charcuterie and cheeses plus pork pies with homemade piccalilli. Yum!

At the bar, they’ll be a selection of English sparkling wines to choose from, as well as gin cocktails thanks to Portsmouth Gin, including gimlets and gin martinis.

The team at The Gherkin has taken the inspiration of the Mayflower voyages to create a summer’s cocktail series, including a summer glass reflecting the flavors and ingredients of the trading routes explored by vessels departing from Plymouth harbour.

Visit Seaside in the Sky is open from July 24 to 1 September at Searcys at The Gherkin, 30 St Mary Axe, EC3A 8EP.
