Tate Modern’s tap takeover is going Down Under for the first time!

For the first time at Tate Modern’s Tap Takeover, April’s event will branch out from British-only breweries.

Coinciding with Anzac Day, a mix of three New Zealand and three Australian breweries have been invited to bring one of their signature beers to serve on the Terrace Bar taps.

The event promises to be a lively celebration of all things down under, with the best of Antipodean independent craft beer, food and music fuelling the night.

The six prestigious breweries invited to bring over the best of the craft beer scene from the other side of the world are 8 Wired, Funk Estate and Yeastie Boys (New Zealand) and Stone & Wood, NOMAD and Young Henrys (Australia). Australia and New Zealand grow some of the most sought-after hops in the world and the event aims to bring an exclusive taste of these plus a chance to view a selection of brewery art and label design.

Guests will experience the beers to a soundtrack of “Down Under” classics provided by New Zealand born DJ Lotion who has a passion for the continent. Spending his time in the UK, New Zealand and Australia, DJ Lotion is sure to give guests a true representation of the music scene from the southern hemisphere.

The food offering will further enhance the Australasian experience, transporting guests to Bondi beach with a take on the ‘classic shrimp on the barbie’ of king prawn skewers. Other traditional Aussie foods will also be available to try such as well-loved lamingtons, the staple Australian cakes dipped in chocolate and liberally sprinkled with fine desiccated coconut.

To represent the Kiwis, Tate Modern will be serving lamb chop lollies. Guests will also be encouraged to try some of the free Anzac biscuits. These iconic biscuits were originally made to send to the ANZACs serving in Gallipoli.
