London is getting over 50 new free water fountains

London … forget the plastic water bottle!

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Thames Water have teamed up to install 100 drinking water fountains, with the fountains all being installed in the next few weeks.

The first two are up and running in Ealing and there will be more popping up in Camden, Greenwich and Southwark soon. Stats from RecycleNow show that the average Londoner buys more than three plastic water bottles every week, so think of the saving on your pocket… and the planet!

London’s plastic pollution crisis comes as a major hurdle in the movement’s quest to eliminate the UK’s single-use plastic waste.

After a 2017 report by the London Assembly Environment Committee found that plastic bottles make up 10 per cent of all litter found in the Thames, Mayor Sadiq Khan proposed a £750,000 three-year plan to address the plastic bottle issue.
