Here’s how to go backstage at London’s National Theatre for free

Fancy being the part of the magic behind the scenes at the National Theatre?

Well, you can… and for FREE! Sherling Backstage Walkway of the National Theatre is a freebie you must visit!

Your tour starts on Drum Road, which is where the National Theatre’s props from productions currently not on stage gets stored here. Next is the warehouse which looks after the set design operation. Plus there’s costumes and props galore in the design room…

The final stop on the Sherling Backstage Walkway is the scene painting room with staging new and old being worked on.

Basically, you get to have a wander behind the scenes and get a glimpse of it all happening. The exhibition also explains how a play moves from being commissioned to opening at the National Theatre!

National Theatre, Upper Ground, South Bank, SE1 9PX. Access to the Sherling Backstage Walkway is via the Dorfman Theatre Foyer.
